Intu, one of the largest shopping networks in the UK, owns and operates some of the most iconic shopping centres across the country, including Lakeside and the Trafford Centre. Each year, Intu provides engaging shopping experiences to over 400 million visitors, aiming to create memorable moments that enhance each guest's visit. This commitment to captivating customer experiences is at the heart of their brand and is reflected across all aspects of their communication, marketing, and centre activities.
The Project
Livewire was brought on board to transform selected "underwhelming" areas within Intu shopping centres into visually dynamic, immersive spaces that encourage interaction and elevate the shopper experience. To achieve this, we began by researching each location, immersing ourselves in the local culture and history to draw inspiration for unique installations.
For example, in Nottingham, we focused on the city's historic underground caves, which date back to the Dark Ages and are a significant part of local heritage. Through on-site photography sessions, we captured the essence of these ancient caves, and our team transformed this imagery into engaging graphics. These visuals were meticulously printed and strategically installed on walls, floors, and even in elevator spaces throughout the shopping centre. This not only provided a playful and immersive experience but also subtly promoted one of Nottingham's unique tourist attractions.
Client Feedback
The response from Intu was overwhelmingly positive, reflecting the realism and impact of our design. One memorable reaction came from a Tech Services team member, Ben, who rushed in, concerned that the tiles had physically cracked. "That’s how realistic it is," he remarked, capturing the success of our installation’s immersive quality.
