British Gas Apprenticeship Welcome Kit

British Gas, a household name and one of the largest suppliers of gas and electricity in the UK, currently serving 7.5 million homes and 350,000 businesses nationwide.

In recent years, British Gas has experienced a decrease in engineers due to retirements and a drop in national apprenticeship opportunities. Committed to addressing this issue, the company announced a significant initiative to recruit 3,500 new apprentices by 2030, alongside offering over 400 new apprenticeship positions across the UK.

About This Project

To encourage new recruits to sign up and welcome them to the company, British Gas launched a welcome pack at the National Apprenticeship Week.

Our challenge, to design and supply 600 high-quality bespoke welcome packs containing printed merchandise custom printed with British Gas’s logo that will encourage enough new recruits to fill the estimated 27,000 gas engineers the UK will need by 2028.

Our priority for the apprenticeship welcome kits was to ensure they were eco-friendly and sustainable whenever possible. Inspired by British Gas's Green Business values, all branded items were sourced from eco-friendly collections that emphasise natural materials.

The outcome, an impressive luxury welcome pack that reflects British Gas’s company culture, ensuring a lasting impression on every new team member.

The Welcome pack

To effectively welcome and inspire the new apprentices, we recognise the importance of care, courage, collaboration, delivery and agility, a core of British Gas's values for a “Greener, fairer future”, and the selection of items needed to prioritise practicality and eco-friendly and sustainable materials.

As a result, we carefully curated to provide practical tools for new apprentices as they embarked on their careers. Each box contained:

  • A bamboo and recycled plastic takeaway coffee cup – perfect for busy apprentices on the move.
  • A set of four coloured highlighters – an essential tool for effective note-taking, highlighting key information, and staying organised during training and on the job.
  • A bamboo pen – both stylish and sustainable for daily use.
  • A recycled paper notebook – an eco option for writing notes, ideas, and important information
  • A cork and recycled plastic charging battery – a modern-day essential to keep connected with the world and head office

This welcome pack served as more than just a collection of items. It represented British Gas's investment in their new apprentices, demonstrating the company's commitment to both their professional development and their environmental principles.

The thoughtful selection of practical and sustainable items aimed to make a positive first impression, fostering a sense of belonging and enthusiasm as the apprentices began their journey towards becoming skilled gas engineers – a crucial role in meeting the UK's future energy needs.
