Big brained marketing ideas

Are you still burning yourself out and spinning multiple marketing plates but not getting the results? Anyone who works in marketing knows it’s a fast-paced industry. New tech is evolving all the time, and the way we consume messages is changing.

There will always be some consistent foundations for effective marketing. Persuasive copy, eye-catching imagery, and a strong brand will always be a mainstay. But these alone will not carry your business. Be careful if you sit still for too long; your marketing can become tired.

Big Marketing Ideas for 2023

This doesn’t mean you have to keep up that relentless pace. Let’s slow down for 5 minutes and find out how you can make your marketing strategy more effective in 2023.

Our digital marketing team have collated all the big ideas from conferences, webinars, blogs this year, and of course, our experience to make 2023 your most effective marketing year yet!

Videography

Ok, video is not new, and it’s probably been on every marketing tips list for the last five years. What has changed is how prevalent video is and how many tools there are to help you create both long and short-form videos. Creating video content is not hard. Putting yourself out there can be. If you’re not comfortable on camera, it’s still a big leap. Is 2023 your year to get on camera? If not, think about how you can still convey your message through video.

For a novice, editing videos can still be time-consuming. Therefore, it is 100% worth investing in a colleague who can take on this role.

6 Video Tips for 2023

  • Use props in your videos to make them less person-focused and more engaging. Big props are even better at creating intrigue.

  • Longer videos are now working just as well, if not better than short-form videos. Around 55% of people will stay watching an 8-minute video (that’s an impressive way to warm up your audience!)

  • Edit your videos to cut any silence or pauses

  • Keep up with using subtitles – we recommend rev.com

  • You don’t have to invest in expensive kit, although we’d recommend clip-on mics and a ring light as a minimum. You can use your phone to record videos but put it on the highest settings (4k 60 frames per second on iPhone)

  • Editing software like CapCut, Canva or Camtasia are easy to use and low cost, or free in some instances.

TikTok

Again, you might think we’re talking about TikTok like it’s something new. If you work in marketing, you can’t ignore TikTok’s impact over the past three years. However, what we are getting now is valuable data from TikTok. We’re starting to see trends about how it’s working and how you can use it.

What many marketers (and people in general) misunderstand about TikTok is that they think of it as a social channel. It’s not. TikTok presents itself as an entertainment channel. The average viewing time is 1.5 to 2 hours, the equivalent of watching a film! That’s a long time to have a potentially captive audience.

Facebook & Instagram Advertising Updates

There is definitely an element of fatigue creeping in with social media advertising. A few years ago, Facebook advertising was a low-cost, easy way to drive traffic to your website and convert leads. With so many companies adopting this approach, we are all experiencing ad fatigue. Not only that, we’re suffering hype fatigue; we’re just not getting as excited about things as we used to.

That said, Facebook and Instagram are not dead. People on these channels feel like they’ve committed so much time to them that they’re just not ready to walk away.

In 2023, our media consumption will become more fragmented than ever. We’ll have a dash of Facebook, a sprinkling of Instagram, a suggestion of TikTok and a dollop of YouTube, plus many others. So we’re afraid it is a case of being in multiple places.

5 Facebook and Instagram advertising tips
  • Check out the Facebook Ad library to see effective ads that generate results. Copy these with pride!

  • Remember you have one aim with social advertising, to stop the scroll. Your objective with the imagery is for the user to stop scrolling. You want them to pause long enough to take in the copy.

  • Your next goal is not to sell anything. It is to create a headline that engages or intrigues the reader. You need to create a headline and write copy that makes the user want to click.

  • If your ads aren’t working, change the image first. Don’t tweak the copy or try new headlines – focus on the image first.

  • Sunday is seemingly a good day for a special offer.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn continues to invest in developing the platform to keep users active there. Have you spotted any of their latest developments that you can use in 2023?

You can now schedule posts directly inside LinkedIn without using a third-party scheduling tool. This functionality hasn’t been rolled out to everyone, but it’s getting there. LinkedIn newsletters continue to grow in popularity and engagement rates. You can also gain visibility on and off LinkedIn by using SEO techniques to raise your presence (like keywords, SEO titles and tagging).

You might have missed that you can add featured posts to your profile on LinkedIn. Remember to use these and change them regularly. You can also use trackable links on these posts to check their performance.

LinkedIn has also been working on the business page functionality. One of the most underutilised features for many small to medium-sized businesses is that you can create events on your business page. These are fantastic for capturing data.
